Sleep and Mental Health

Is there a connection between sleep and mental well being? YES!

Sleep is a keystone health habit that impacts our mood, disease, weight, and the speed at which we age. Work, stressors, and disruptive bedroom environments can prevent us from getting enough sleep. We can feel groggy, and dread the day before it even begins.

Our circadian rhythms can be disrupted by indoor lighting, mobile screens, work, overall expectations of us.

So what do we do?

Set a sleep schedule and stick to it. We should aim for 7-9 hours per night. Are there things that could improve overall sleep? YES!

-more physical activity during the day

-herbal teas, lemon hot water

-paint your room in calm colours-blue, yellow, green, orange to lower heart rate

-declutter

-salt lamps can provide a soothing effect

-read before bed

-cold temperatures/warm blankets

-eye mask

-black out blinds

What is your rest ritual? Could you improve it? Something to consider when we ask ourselves why our mood may be "off".
